If you had to, what religion would you choose to be?

i was reflecting having read someone's thread about blowing off non jw family that actually it would have been so much better if i had a larger family, preferably not completely jw saturated and this random train of thought led me to thinking that if i could choose i would be catholic, because then i would have a huge family, go to really nice gothic churches with lots of candles and tortured saints and be able to go to confession (instead of lt's mobile).

also the colours of the whore of babylon always were a lot more enticing to me than the mild blues and undistracting beiges of the khs.. i think we all have religions which would suit our personalities so much better.

Yes, and I'm not the only one. Just have a look at this JWD forum and you will see for yourself that yours has more than its fare share as far as disappointment is concerned.

I don't want to make this forum turn into a culinary circle but tripes are commonly eaten overhere. I think Scottish Haggis is comparable. Still, not everybody likes them, it's a rather rural dish. As they are fairly pungent (ideal with hot mustard), they must be served with something neutral, such as potatoes. Apart from that I'm a native, yes. Must go now, good night you all.

Hei, Crumpet, that's a very down to earth user name. Aligot is a mixture of mashed potatoes with Auvergne unsalted cheese. It gives a nice sticky and thready puree, absolutely divine. Just have it with ripounsous, patois word for wild asparagus that you pick up in hedges, plus tripes (they say tripous) and local red wine (Marcillac or Chanturgue will do marvellously).

Well, I like the idea of one unique god, with no trinity, which is the reason why I still associate, though flexibly, with the JWs, until I find a better bet. In fact, when you look at it, there are not that many denominations which meet that criteria : as far as I know, I may be wrong, there are jews, moslems...and JW. Also, the prospect of paradise earth is appealing, although laced with many question marks.Heard of Jews for Jesus, but I don't feel ready to investigate thoroughly yet. Chat échaudé craint l'eau froide, and my best half is probably not ready to severe all ties with the congregation, not to mention the children who are put off as regards religion, lest they should go another run with 5 hour meeting weeks.

it was real cute about the wt reasoning about the "seven times" equalling days and years and the whole jumbled mess.

my memory is not working today.

Very likely, the question has been addressed before but I would like to raise the following point, just in case : we are explained that, because of the 360 day jewish year, one time (one year) is 360 years and 7 times (Dan 4 : 16) are 2520 years, which takes us to ( - 607 + 2520) = 1913, + 1 = 1914. Now, we note that this method mixes up two basis of calculation, 360 and 365 day years. If we do the whole calculation on the basis of 365 day years, why not, 7 times are 2555 years and good old 1914 turns into (- 607 + 2555) = 1948, + 1 = 1949. Just add 120 years on account of antitype (or type ? I forgot) Noah's days and you get to 2069, which gives us plenty of time ahead to reflect and find more imaginative computing methods. Anyone for a try ?

i am looking for the jwd thread about the amazing fact that the bible contains the same chapter almost word for word in two different books!

does anyone know where that thread is, and what the verses are for the duplicated chapter?.

also, anyone have thoughts on how this duplication came about?.

There is also this puzzling story in Gen.19 about Lot offering sodomites to rape his daughters instead of his guests, and almost the same account being related in Judges 19 :22. I'm afraid we'll have to wait until the new order to be able, eventually, to give questioning women a satisfactory explanation.

it is fun to hear all the post and wisdom and jokes coming from everyone.

For most of us, communicating, or lurking, as I do, on this forum is a bowl of fresh air, and I find it so sad that JWs can't find in their r own congregations the necessary confident relationship that would allow each one to express him(her)self free of other's judgement and disapproval, not having to be told that "you weaken the brothers' faith" whilst all that you seek is just the mutual enrichment that comes out of exchanging viewpoints. To me the lack of real theological or plain human exchange within the WTS is a glaring sign that it is almost a corpse. But again, as my grand dad could have asked during WW1, have you found a better hole, or could it be that All organized religions are repressive, as I'm pretty sure quite a few overhere have gathered from their JW experience ?

let me first introduce myself. I'm a JW : where else, etc (no small question), and excuse my english.

What triggered my stepping in this forum was the question of readers article about the initial and final sealing of the anointed ones. One can't but be puzzled by the easy way the remaining remnant, I mean those who will eyewitness the GT, trie to secure for themselves a snug salvation without experiencing much trouble. Whereas we have been explained at lenght over the last hundred years that the anointed are rewarded with the heavenly hope after they have gone over heaps of trials, some crafty ones have found a better way out by getting their definitive sealing BEFORE the begining of the GT. One shivers at the idea that some sarky opposers might point out that there is definitely too much injustice and inequality, and not only in this dying world but also within the WTS. One can imagine what will be the reaction of the poor resurrected Malawyan brothers and sisters who were "encouraged" to keep their integrity by not getting a party card and let themselves be chopped off 30 years ago. Let's leave it in Jah's hand, He who probes hearts.
